A behavioral response of an organism to a stimulus;
movement of a cell or an organism in response to an external stimulus.

Imagined and founded by musician and composer João Dias Ferreira and visual artist and researcher Marta Fiolić in Portugal in 2023, Cinese is an 8-piece instrumental collective and a captivating aural and visual spectacle. It remixes iconic cinema with the worlds of literature and philosophy, spicing it up with originally composed music.

Cinese presents itself through three distinct axes: music, video, and live performance. The live performance, envisioned as the culmination of this multidisciplinary approach, deserves special attention.

It connects the pieces in a conceptual show, where the synergy between the band on stage, the reinvented cinema, and the voices of literary works aspires to stimulate audiences, taking them on a sensory, emotional, and intellectual journey.

In this way, Cinese seeks to transport the fantastic worlds that have shaped and expanded the human mind for centuries into the present, offering insights that continue to help us understand today’s world. At the same time, it’s impossible not to move, dance, and think.

After two years of research and creation, Cinese will be launching their first audiovisual album in 2025.
